U14 Camogie County Champions

Congratulations to the U14 Camogie team who won the Derry U14 Championship on Friday evening, defeating Bellaghy in the final on a scoreline of Lavey 5-3 Bellaghy 1-2. Emer Madden was superb at full back, plucking balls out of the air and driving up the pitch at every opportunity, whilst team caption, Niamh Conway was also outstanding at half back. Although midfield appeared to be Bellaghy’s strongest line, Beth Kilpatrick and Aine Magill worked tirelessly, continuously supplying quality ball to the forward line, supported by half forwards Lauren Martin and Sinead McGill. Corner forward and player of the match, Eilis Toner was the goal getter of the game and provided a threat, despite her size, at every opportunity going forward. Despite some remarkable individual displays, this was a team performance, and every player, including the substitutes who came on, did there ALL for the orange and black jersey! One skill which shone throughout was the catching ability of this young team, and the Lavey management of Eileen Gribben, Colm McGurk and Jannette McCann should be commended for developing this important skill at such an early stage. Congratulations to all the girls and their management team who proved there is a bright future ahead for Lavey camogie!
