S. McPeake & Sons’ Sponsor Minor Footballers

Thanks to S. McPeake & Sons’ who have sponsored our Minor Football team a new set of jerseys for the 2014 season.

In business for the past 40 years, S. McPeake & Sons’ are mid-Ulsters premium suppliers of both new and used cars and commercials (both domestic & imported). Pictured above, James McPeake presents the new jerseys to Lavey managers Fergal McNally and Gavin Boyle and players Shea Downey, Eamonn McGill, Brendan Laverty and Dara McPeake.

After winning the Hughes McElwee Cup earlier in the season, Lavey got off to a poor start in the league with a five point defeat to Swatragh in a high scoring encounter at Davitt Park. They quickly recovered with an impressive victory over Ballinderry and were unlucky to only come away with a draw against table toppers’ Glen in Watty Graham Park; Glen equalising in the last minute of playing time.

Tonight, Lavey welcomed Brian Ogs Steelstown to Gulladuff. First half goals from Eamonn McGill and Matthew Bradley meant that Lavey went in ahead at the break on a score line of Lavey 2-3 Steelstown 0-5. Two Steelstown points at the beginning of the second half brought the score difference back to the minimum, however Lavey responded with an impressive 10 minute spell in which they scored 1-3 without response, Eamonn McGill scoring his second goal of the game. Lavey could have pushed further ahead, however they failed to convert possession into scores with several wides from scorable positions. Steelstown again threatened to come back as a high ball into the square found its way to the back of the Lavey net, however Lavey held out for a win on a final score of Lavey 3-7 Steelstown 2-7.

Midfielders Eamonn McGill and Dara McPeake impressed, their work rate commendable and both also looking comfortable at taking their own scores. Matthew Bradley also looked lively up front, however it was Brendan Laverty who was the stand out Lavey performer; he put in an immense performance from centre back, good under the high ball and getting forward at every opportunity.

Next up for the boys is a home game against Newbridge on Monday 26th May.

Best of luck to the team and management for the season ahead.
