Lavey Secure Further Two Points with Victory Over Newbrige

Senior Football League; Lavey v Newbrige

Lavey played against a strong breeze in the first half and played patient, controlled football against a defensively arranged Newbridge side. Lavey were rewarded with two breakaway goals; the first from Niall Toner after 14 minutes and the second five minutes later from Dara McPeake to put them ahead at half time, 2-2 to 0-5.

Newbridge won the throw in and now playing with the wind immediately staged an attack, winning a 14 yard free which was converted to bring them back into the game. Toner and O’Boyle scores kept Lavey in the lead, however a further three Newbridge free kicks allowed them to level the game and a well taken Kevin Sweeny penalty pushed Newbridge into the lead with 15 minutes left on the clock.

Kevin O’Neill was carried off the pitch after a midfield clash after 20 minutes.

Lavey finished the stronger of the two sides and long range points from Toner and O’Boyle saw out a deserved Lavey victory.

Final score Lavey 2-9 Newbridge 1-9.
