Lavey Off to Winning Start

Lavey Senior Footballers got their league campaign of to a winning start as they took on Dungiven on Wednesday night.

The first half was a competitive affair with the two sides exchanging scores throughout. Michael Drumm provided a solid base for launching attacks from the half back line while Kevin Rafferty was winning vital ball in the midfield area. Anthony McGurk impressed from the half forward line kicking two points from play.

The sides went in at the break Lavey 0-10, Dungiven 0-7.

In the second half, Cailean O’Boyle proved a handful at the edge of the square; the same player bagged two goals to push Lavey well into the lead. Dungiven threatened to pull the game back and Ciaran O’Boyle was called upon to pull off a string of fine saves to contain the Dungiven forward line and keep a clean sheet. The introduction of Kevin O’Neill in the middle of the park also helped the Lavey cause. Caolan McGurk drove forward from the Lavey defence to score an opportunistic goal in the final few minutes to put the tie beyond doubt.

Final score Lavey 3-12 Dungiven 0-15

Scorers: Cailean O’Boyle 2-5 (4 frees), Caolan McGurk 1-1, Anthony McGurk 0-3 (1 free), Liam Murphy 0-2, Niall Tonner 0-1.
