Lavey Continue Good Start to Season

Our senior footballers continued their unbeaten run in the league this year as they recorded their fourth consecutive win, this time over O’Donovan Rossa, Magherafelt.

The game was played at a frantic pace and it was difficult to separate the sides in the first half; both teams led for short periods and there was never more than two points between the teams. Magherafelt led by one at the break, 0-7 to 0-6, the Lavey scores coming from Liam Murphy (2), Cailean O’Boyle (3) and Kevin O’Neill (1).

As the second half got under way and the sides again drew level, you got the impression that whichever team could get the goal and open up the game could push on and win this match. Both teams had goal chances but it was Cailean O’Boyle who produced the finish. A superb cross field ball from Anthony McGurk and an unstoppable strike to the top corner of the net from O’Boyle. From this moment onward, captain Kevin McCloy gained control of his defence, the move of Niall Toner to the half forward line payed dividends as he, along with Anthony McGurk and Chrissy Henry picked up break ball and fed the dangerous O’Boyle and Liam Murphy up front. Lavey went on to score four unanswered points to put the result of the game beyond doubt.

Final Score Lavey 1-13 Magherafelt 0-9

Scorers: Cailean O’Boyle 1-4 (2 f), Liam Murphy 0-3, Niall Toner 0-2, Kevin O’Neill 0-2, Anthony McGurk 0-1, Caolan McGurk 0-1 (45)

Next up is Ballinascreen on Friday night. Best of luck to the team and management.
