Late Goal Not Enough as Kilrea Emerge With Home Victory

A disciplined and defensive display from the home side meant that both teams were reduced to well taken scores. The first half was point for point until a challenge on Cailean O’Boyle in the square resulted in a Lavey penalty on the brink of half time. Liam Murphy converted to push Lavey three ahead at the break, Lavey 1-6 Kilrea 0-6.

Kilrea came out brighter in the second half and took the lead with points from James Kielt and Brian Og McAlary. A strong display from Dermot O’Neil kept Lavey in the game as he added his third point from play.

Lavey made some changes in the final quarter to freshen up the attack and were rewarded with a Ben Dodds goal with only a few minutes left to tie the game. Both teams went in search of a winner; Lavey won the kickout but were dispossessed and Paddy McNeil grabbed the winning point for Kilrea in the last minute of play.

Scorers; Anthony McGurk (0-4, 3 f), Liam Murphy (1-2 1 pen, 1 f), Dermot O’Neill (0-3), Ben Dodds (1-0)
