Derek Ryan LIVE at Lavey Termoneeny Centre

Derek Ryan, Ireland’s most exciting country artist is set to play live at the Lavey Termoneey Centre on Sunday May 3rd (Bank Holiday Weekend). This weekend is set to be huge with the King Kane fight taking place on Saturday May 2nd.

The ‘TCA Models,’ more commonly known as the Lavey Camogie team met with Derek last week to formally launch the event.

Ryan was in great form and was delighted to wear the Lavey no. 3 jersey for a photoshoot. Although he didn’t ‘fill’ the jersey quite as well as Kevin McCloy, he exclaimed ‘I feel like Henry Shefflin’ as he tested out his skills with the hurley and sliothar around the grounds of the Tullyglass Hotel and told tales of how he played in goals for his club team in Carlow at a time. ‘I could never play out field,’ he said, ‘you need to be real tough to venture out there!’

The girls tried to talk Derek into a transfer deal but singing and song writing is where his heart lies. At age 17, his career in music became fulltime, signing to Warner Music London as he became lead singer of Irish pop band D-side, with achievements including several Meteor Awards nominations, a multi-platinum selling single ‘Real World’ in Ireland, adding to his 3 top 10 hits in the UK . Live T.V appearances included Top of the Pops, GMTV and The Late Late Show along with a sell out theatre tour and number one single in Japan in 2005. Returning to Ireland in September 2009, he started writing his first songs. Now with four critically acclaimed albums on release including his most recent, ‘Country Soul’, a five piece band and thousands of fans, Derek is well ahead of his dream.

The camogie girls were treated to a unique and personal acoustic version of his own song- ‘Hold Onto Your Hat’ in what was a fantastic end to an eventful afternoon.

A true gentleman, we look forward to welcoming him to South Derry on Sunday May 3rd.

Doors open 8.30pm. £12 admission, pay at the door.
