A Day at the Races!

Saturday 7th June, 3.30pm- late.

Unfortunately the weather forecast for tomorrow isn’t great but it does give it to brighten up in the afternoon…fingers crossed! Regardless, the show will go on! Can all teams please prepare for the worst and dress accordingly..there is a chance you could get wet (even if it doesn’t rain!)! If the weather really doesn’t like us, events will be run off inside the 3G hall. We have a busy day planned and look forward to your support! Events to kick off at 3.30pm!

Proudly sponsored by Shivers Business Park & Coffee Break @ Shivers

programme of events

The following teams have now been confirmed….

Lavey Senior Camogie Team
Ceara Dougan, Eimear Duggan, Shauneen McCann, Irene Cushnahan, Caitriona Murphy and Katie Taggart.
These girls are hard at training and certainly seem up for the event. Asked if the all-female team would be at a disadvantage against their male opponents, team spokesperson Caitiona Murphy said that the girls had their game plan in place, ‘Forget the glass slipper, the princess wears running shoes. We are going to run everyone else into the ground!’

Termoneeny Running Club Team
Shaun Dillon, Shauna Melough, Ciaran Henry, Gerard Henry, Nicola Sargent, Tom Halferty, Sam Campbell, Paddy McCormick.
When asked how preparations for the day were going, Tom Halferty said that coach Gerard Hasson has a strict training regime in place. The team completed a 10k yesterday and are due to run the Derry City Marathon next week, ‘but this will all be wee buns compared to the big day at the races’.

Lavey Minor Football/Hurling Team
Dara McPeake, Shea Downey, Philip O’Kane, Daniel McGill, Dominic Duggan, Eamonn McGill
These young boys will be up against their own managers on the day. ‘Gavin and Shorty have ran us into the ground,’ said team captain Eamonn McGill, ‘its time to get even!’

Lavey Minor Camogie Team
Aoife Shaw, Orla O’Kane, Aine Murphy, Claire McGill, Marguarita McNally, Ciara Rafferty
The girls are all in the middle of their A-Levels and have a lot of built up energy, just waiting to be released on the day! As one of the youngest teams competing, do they feel intimated? ‘Age is our advantage, not our disadvantage’, said Orla O’Kane. ‘We fear no-one.’

Team ‘Cosy’
Brian O’Sullivan, Kieran Farrell, Gerard Taggart, Kevin O’Neill, Christopher Convery, Michael Maguire (better half pictured!), Ciaran Higgins, ‘Coco’ the dog.
Like all the other teams, these men have been training hard in the run up to the big day. ‘We were going to put them on a three week drink ban’ said captain Chrissy Convery, ‘however Sambo wouldn’t allow it’.

Baldies’ Babes
Bernard O’Kane, Ciara Boyle, Martin ‘Peakes’ McGill, Darren Duggan, Geraldine Hughes, Ciaran O’Neill, Mary O’Kane.
Instead of fully focusing on their training regime in the run up to the big event, there has been rumour of discontent within the camp…all over the team name! Should be ‘Boyles Bar team’ or ‘Hughes Bar team’?? In the end, they settled for ‘Baldies Babes’ as a compromise (after the Man-U player Busby Babes apparently)- lets hope they have more luck on the day than Man-United have had this season!

Termoneeny Cycling Team
Joe Boyle, Terence ‘Matches’ McMullan, Ollie Collins, Mickey ‘Happy’ Halferty, Donal O’Kane, Arty McMullan.
‘We have some team members competing in the Giro, others in the Tour de France’, said Joe Boyle, ‘so the team might change a little from that listed…but we have depth in numbers and will be there in force!’.

Lions Aloud
????, ????, ????, ????, ????, ????
Do you hear the roar…the big cats have arrived in town! But the question is, have these wild cats escaped from the circus or will they be crowned king of the races on the day? At least they made a good job of cutting the grass!!

Team of 91′
Don Mulholland, Ciaran McGurk, Brian Scullion, John McGurk, Fergal Rafferty, Mickey Collins
A blast from the past- they may have a few more years on the clock but the 1991 boys are back to prove they are still the best about! ‘Form is temporary, class is permanent,’ said team captain John McGurk.

Lavey Senior Football/Hurling
Ben Dodds, Chrissy Henry, Liam Murphy, Michael Drumm, Shane McGill, Matthew Henry
‘The camogs did a good job at the Big Breakfast last week,’ said Michael Drumm. ‘They should stick to the kitchen, this event is for the men..!’

Tommys Team
Kevin Duggan, Jason McShane (Damian O’Boyle body double), Brian Harkin, Ronan O’Donnell, Aaron Mawhinney, Barry Young

Lavey Ladies
Eileen Gribben, Susan Duggan, Olive Rafferty, Margaret McMullan, Gemma Mulholland, Geraldine Hughes

Check out how team preparations have been going…
