Club Dinner Dance
The annual dinner dance was held in the Lavey Termoneeny Centre on Saturday 2nd February. Thanks to special guests on the night, Jim McKeever and Fr Baker, and also to the Terrace Hotel for providing a beautiful meal.
A special presentation was held to honor the victorious 1962 All County Hurling Champions on the 50th anniversary of the event. Joe McGurk provided an entertaining rendition of what life was like in 1962, as well as reading out match reports from the county final of that year, before each team member/representative was presented with a memento of the occasion.
Ollie Collins and Henry Downey were presented with individual awards to celebrate the fact that they were named on the Ulster GAA Writters’ Jubilee hurling and football teams respectively. Downey was named in his customary centre-back position while Ollie Collins was selected at centre-forward and was the only Derry player to be selected on the Silver Jubilee Hurling team. Lavey GAC were the only dual club to have members selected in each team! Henry Downey also received a special award to celebrate his selection in the Fitzgibbon Team of the Century, where he was named in a forward line alongside Henry Shefflin, Joe Canning and Nicholas English!
Special awards were also presented to Lavey GAC camogs; Teresa McElroy and Attracta McPeake, who won All-Ireland medals playing for their county in September 2012, helping Derry gain promotion to Division 1 camogie. Attracta later went on to win the Lavey GAC player of the year award.
